Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)
Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) are comprehensive evaluations that help to determine an individual’s overall physical capacity level.
Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) are comprehensive evaluations done in order help to determine an individual’s overall physical capacity level (physical level of work that they are capable of performing safely). We also determine specific limitations with respect to work-related activities including, but not necessarily limited to, lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, reaching, bending/stooping, twisting, sitting, standing, walking, grip strength, fine motor skills/dexterity, etc. The entire evaluation consists of a history taking process, physical exam, and functional testing, which usually takes about 3 hours.
If you are scheduled to come in for a FCE, you need to arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time to fill out your patient registration paperwork, and wear clothes and footwear that you would be comfortable performing the above activities in. If you are currently taking medication, you may take it as prescribed, as long as it is not medication that would impair your ability to “work” in an actual job situation.
